💛 When Service Lifts the Soul

While I was out of town recently, my sweet son was really missing me and my husband. He called about every hour that day — first to say how much he missed us, then that his homework was too hard… and eventually that life was too hard.

After a few of those calls, I remembered a powerful quote from Elder Dallin H. Oaks:

“Following Christ and giving of oneself in service to one another is the best remedy for selfishness and individualism.”

I had left some sweet rolls at home, so I told him to take a few to an older couple in our neighborhood whom he adores. He was hesitant at first, but eventually convinced his sister to go with him.

A little while later, I called to check in — and his whole tone had changed. He was cheerful, had finished his homework, and didn’t call again the rest of my trip. 💛

It truly is amazing how service can turn our hearts outward and lift our spirits. When we serve, we find joy.
