Because Jesus Walked

Because Jesus walked such a long, lonely path utterly alone, we do not have to.

Holland

In 2009, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland gave a powerful talk entitled "None Were with Him." In it, he described the final moments of the Savior’s life—how He was abandoned by His followers one by one, and ultimately, even the Spirit of His Father withdrew. In that incomprehensible moment, Christ stood completely and utterly alone.

This message has always deeply touched my heart. It has helped me come to know, love, and appreciate the Savior in a more personal way. Like you, I’ve experienced times of loneliness. And yet, this reminder—that Jesus completed the Atonement entirely alone—reassures me that we never have to be. Because of Him, we are never truly alone. He is always there.

There are times when it’s hard to feel His presence or believe that He’s near. But if we can hold on to the truth that He suffered for us so that we wouldn’t have to face life’s darkest moments by ourselves, then with faith in His Atonement, we can move forward—knowing He walks with us, even when we can’t always see or feel Him.
