How to Make the Sabbath a Delight
Do you struggle with what to do on Sunday? Do you look at Pinterest boards wishing you had the energy to make the cute puzzles and crafts for your kids to do on Sunday? What does the perfect Sunday look like to you?
I have struggled with the Sabbath for years. We have had good days and bad days but mostly me just not knowing what to do. Recently I came across this scripture:
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
I loved this definition of what we should be doing on Sunday. It isn’t about the perfect reverent family sitting down at Sunday dinner with grandma’s china that makes the Sabbath a delight. It is doing God’s will. It is asking Him days in advance what we can do to make the Sabbath a Delight. It is seeking His Spirit and then doing what you feel He wants you to do. What He tells you is going to be different than what He tells me. But as you seek His help He will be there.
Recently I was watching a YouTube channel: Don’t Miss This and they quoted a scripture:
For, behold, I say unto you, that it mattereth not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament, if it so be that ye do it with an eye single to my glory—remembering unto the Father my body which was laid down for you, and my blood which was shed for the remission of your sins.
They discussed the idea of it not mattering how we think things are supposed to be done but instead on having our eye single to God’s glory. What would our scripture study be like if we didn’t do it the way we thought we needed to but instead we did it the way that would bring our family closer to Christ. The same with our Sunday worship.

Maybe for you Sunday means a hike with your family. Maybe service to a neighbor, even if it means getting your suit dirty. Maybe your scripture study becomes a time of fun instead of a time to dread. We started doing a puzzle while we listened to the scriptures instead of reading them sitting around the table. We wanted our children to love the scriptures and not dread them. To come to know Christ as a delight instead of a chore.
But what about you? What can you do? What doesn’t matter and what does? What is the Spirit prompting you to do for your family on the Sabbath Day. He will tell you if you ask and if you listen for an answer. Your Sabbath can truly be a delight for everyone in your home. With God nothing is impossible. I hope that you will ask Him how to find God’s Beauty in the Sabbath. As you do, you will be inspired line upon line until your Sabbath will be a delight.
