4 Ways to Bring You Happiness

Life can be daunting.  There are so many demands on each of us and not enough time or energy to do them all.  It is hard not to look at others and wonder why they are so happy and wonder what’s wrong with me?

I have felt I should share with you insights I have found through my own experience and study on the topic.  I have found 4 passages that provide steps to bring happiness into our lives.

1. “We can choose to let God prevail in our lives, or not. We can choose to let God be the most powerful influence in our lives, or not . . . as you choose to let God prevail in your lives, you will experience for yourselves that our God is ‘a God of miracles.’”

Russel M. Nelson, Let God Prevail, Ensign, Nov. 2020

When we let God guide our lives then we can see miracles happen around us and that brings happiness.

2. "When I have learned to love God better than my earthly dearest, I shall love my earthly dearest better than I do now. In so far as I learn to love my earthly dearest at the expense of God and instead of God, I shall be moving towards that state in which I shall not love my earthly dearest at all. When first things are put first, second things are not suppressed but increased." (Italics added)

Put God first then all that we want will be given us and we will be happier.

3. “Be grateful for what you have now. As you begin to think about all the things in your life you are grateful for, you will be amazed at the never ending thoughts that come back to you of more things to be grateful for. You have to make a start, and then the law of attraction will receive those grateful thoughts and give you more just like them.”

The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne

Be grateful and you will be given more to be grateful for; bringing happiness.

4. “Happiness is tied to circumstance and joyfulness is tied to spirit and gratitude.

Every person I interviewed who described living a joyful life or who described themselves as joyful, actively practiced gratitude and attributed their joyfulness to their gratitude practice. Both joy and gratitude were described as spiritual practices that were bound to a belief in human interconnectedness and a power greater than us.”

The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are, by Brené Brown

Gratitude brings us joy which is deeper and better than happiness.

As we put God first in our lives and allow Him to guide us we will be happier.  We also need to be grateful, not only will we receive happiness we can receive “a fullness of joy” (3 Nephi 28:10).

1. When we let God guide our lives then we can see miracles happen around us and that brings happiness.

2. Put God first then all that we want will be given us and we will be happier.

3. Be grateful and you will be given more to be grateful for; bringing happiness.

4. Gratitude brings us joy which is deeper and better than happiness.
